Trade Show Success Takes a Village

Interview with Sabrina Fernandez, Owner and Founder, One Wave Collective, LLC

How do you build relationships with vendors and suppliers to succeed onsite?

Exhibiting at trade shows, whether B2B or B2C, can be an expensive endeavor, yet more and more marketing departments are finding that in-person experiences are advancing their goals. Companies measuring ROI are keeping an eye on the bottom line, and being efficient at setup and smart with the initial investments makes a financial difference. Managing teams of vendors onsite can make or break the show.

“This is an incredible point to be made because it's often overlooked, but it takes a village to make these events happen. It's all about teamwork. So creating those relationships is instrumental.”

How do you go about doing it with proper communication? Communication on the slightest detail to the largest detail — it makes a difference for everybody to be in the loop and for everybody to feel considered. I think that's a big obstacle when you have so many moving parts, so many different vendors and teams working on one project.

You can’t have a situation where one guy just decided to do something, and that kind of messed up what someone else was doing. Because then now you have adversity and conflict, and it's the job of the leader to be able to pacify these situations and find the solution that works for everyone.

“How you avoid that from the get-go is just communication, creating that kind of morale amongst the group where we're all a team; we're all working together. We want to get this done and respect everybody's views, opinions and methods. And then just finding the way for all of that to work together. So it really comes down to proper communication and consideration.”
